michael hannaford is an artist from up here in leeds, whose work was recommended to me by rory macbeth. i saw these angel and devil etchings in his degree show earlier this year...
he took biblical descriptions of heavenly and hellish creatures and, without indicating the origin of the text, he asked members of the public to draw the beasts described.
the resulting drawings are compiled into a couple of little sketchbooks ['heaven' and 'hell'] which i really liked [but didn't take any pics of, sadly]
from these sketches he created a series of etchings which formed the basis of his degree show...
