chris tate
chris tate's been to the festival in the past, and i'd quite like to ask him along in 2010 to do some drawings on site that we can then do something with - maybe art for all prints or a poster or illustrations for the festival guide? - in 2011.

"Art for the Visually Impaired ie sessions focusing on relief / touch / objects - which someone without sight could participate in equally...
Could be just for the visually impaired and / or with interface to the sighted.
In tandem some eductaion sessions / lectures on sight / visual impairment / perception;
The sciennce and experience would be interesting...
A number of galleries' education sections do this kind of thing ( I think)..."

"an idea was on the theme of 'the art of looking sideways'.... It would be the art of drawing silhouettes.
It would be roughly the same set up as the self portraits, but you would draw a silhouette on black paper and cut it out for scanning.
You could either get people drawing another person head sideways on (more of a sharing experience) then it is cut out by the model,
or you could have a bright light casting a shadow for another to draw around for you to cut out....
ie you sit down the next person in the queue traces around your shadow on some black paper, then you cut that out as a silhouette.
That next person sits and is draw by the next etc etc...
You would need the same easels but this time they would be to the side, a bright mfi-style spotlight would be attached to the back or the other easel shining across your face to cast a shadow.
It would need some experimenting with, but is very easy to do, so long as there isn't to much light. And that's the problem. How little light do you think you could get away with?.... any how..... if it worked, you would have a drawing area and a cutting out/chilling out area. Drawing would be swift, and cutting slightly slower..."

plinth
An idea from John Mackay
Just had a simple idea which I thought would work really well at GB and be fun as well. Was thinking it would be good to to a 'plinth' at GB and have people standing on it doing ...?. Although I realise not a terribly original idea and that it's totally nicked from Anthony Gormley in Trafalgar Square at the moment I thought it could be a bit of a different way for people to interact with the arts at GB. You could have a similar application system as Gormley has had but perhaps have a theme, maybe along the lines of 'a sideways look' or something. I could imagine the GB audience embracing the idea in quite a big way.
I realise this is the bare bones of an idea whist I am cooking tea but....!

As Greenbelt has adopted the Just Peace campaign, two photographic exhibitions come to mind. The first is by award-winning photojournalist, Judah Passow. Some notes & ideas from Jane Gresham about greenhaus - the gb school of art
GREENHAUS NOTES FOR NEXT YEAR 2010
Start on a positive note – much improved from 2008. Better venue. A sense of a team beginning to emerge. Better variety of classes on offer.
Really good to have assistants
What could make it better:
• Finalising the teachers and the programme in good time so that we can get it in to the programme.
• Be very clear how to sign up for the classes (in the programme and online), how many in each class and what age groups apply.
• We need to work out how the sign up is going to be. ½ in the Hub the day before and ½ on the door was what we thought would work so long as people knew that in advance.
• Better naming of classes so that it is clear what the classes are about, maybe label them studio A, B, C
• Improved signage - sandwich boards around the venue
flyers and stickers to advertise the Greenhaus around the site.
• What we call the classes – we had workshop 1 and 2 on the floor above us so we need to come up with the right naming of classes.
• Scheduling – some classes need more time to end and clear up, so we need to schedule these at the end of the day or before lunch.
• It would be good to have a blacked out area.
• If we had another room detached from Cottage Rake, we could do quiet activities like Ian Long’s drawing and prayer or Talks which are difficult in a multi use space.
• We need resources for clearing up – bin bags, kitchen roll etc.
• Also need blutac and masking tape.
• Re the exhibition in the hub at the end of the sessions. It happened on the first day but we failed after that as we were so tired by the end of the day. Not good, so maybe it requires an effort or expectation from all involved in the teaching/volunteering.
• We need a way of identifying the teachers – could be a clip on badge.
